Description

The building of the theater, built in 1900, combines Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Baroque styles, as well as modern elements. The building impresses with a large number of stucco moldings, decorations and sculptures. The top of the theater is decorated with two bronze figures-symbols: on the left - "Comedy and Drama", on the right - "Music", and between them stands a statue of "Glory". Even more impressive is the rich interior of the theater - gilding, massive chandeliers, luxurious paintings, paintings, stucco, carvings and sculpture. Particularly noteworthy is the mirror hall with huge mirrors, which optically enlarges a small room. But the main thing is still the hall in the form of a lyre, which is designed for a thousand spectators. The hall was decorated by 10 artists under the direction of S. Reyhan. One of the main decorations of both the hall and the whole theater is the curtain "Parnassus" - a picture painted by Polish artist G. Semiradsky. It belongs to the most unique works of art in Lviv. No less spectacular is the chandelier of 10 sectors with images of Grace, Music, Dance, Criticism, Drama, Inspiration, Bacchanalia, Virtue, Illusion and Truth, which harmoniously completed the image.

World-famous performers such as Oleksandr Bandrivskyi, Helena Ruszkowska-Zboinska, Yan Kepura, Yanina Korolevia-Vaidova, Gemma Belinchioni, Mattia Battistini, Ada Sari, as well as Ukrainian performers, in particular Oleksandr Myshuga, Modest Mencinski, Oleksandra Lyubych-Parakhonyak, Liudmyla Bozhko and Solomiya Krushelnytska, whose name the theatre now bears, have sung on the stage of the Lviv Opera. The current repertoire of the theater includes about 20 operas and ballets, 3 operettas, as well as concert programs. Among the most popular operas are "Rigoletto" by D. Verdi, "Aida" by D. Verdi, ballets "The Nutcracker" by P. Tchaikovsky, "Bayadereka" by L. Minkus, "Swan Lake" by P. Tchaikovsky, "Romeo and Juliet" by S. Prokofiev. All operas are presented in the original language (Italian, French, Russian, Polish). For the convenience of the audience, there is a scoreboard with a moving line above the stage, which provides a translation of the content of the performance into Ukrainian. In addition, the theater hosts the international festival of opera art named after Solomiya Krushelnytska.
