Description

The history of its appearance is very interesting, because the Russian emperor himself was involved in the construction of this religious building.
The first church, the walls of which were made of wood, was built back in 1781. However, later this church was destroyed by fire. In 1890 near the city of Rivne were held large military maneuvers, which were attended by the Russian Emperor Alexander III. He decided to make Rivne his temporary residence. At the place where the old church was, the tsar together with Archbishop Modest of Volyn laid the foundation stone of the new church.

The ceremony of laying the foundation stone was held in August of the same year after the liturgy on the name day of the royal family. The ceremony was attended by Emperor Alexander III, the ruling archpastor, Empress Maria Feodorovna, Tsarevich Nicholas Alexandrovich and many other noble persons. It was an unprecedented event for all times in the whole Volyn land. The head of the region, Count Ignatiev, took care of consecrating the church and purchasing everything necessary for it.

The iconostasis was created in the Kyiv workshop of Alexander Murashko. Having visited the temple, you will see how skillfully each iconostasis is gilded. It is worth noting that the icons on the main iconostasis, which had three tiers, the masters depicted on a golden background with minting.

Today, the Holy Resurrection Cathedral is the cradle of Orthodoxy in the city and at the same time a model of church unity. The temple consists of upper and lower floors. The upper temple houses the Ukrainian Autocephalous Church. The small lower one houses the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.
